The Oscar Nominations Are In

For us at the Hollywood Spotlight, this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. After watching as many Oscar hopeful films as possible, we now know which of them have been nominated.  The nominations for the 86th Academy Awards were announced on the morning of Thursday, January 16th and we are not surprised at all to learn that "American Hustle" and "Gravity" garnered 10 nominations each to top all films.

Let’s start with American Hustle; a film that was nominated in several major categories, including best picture, best director (David O. Russell), best actor (Christian Bale), best actress (Amy Adams), best supporting actor (Bradley Cooper), best supporting actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and best adapted screenplay. That’s called running the table right? “Hustle” not only featured a cast that was at the top of their respective games, but also a story and setting that was undeliably compelling.

We knew that "12 Years a Slave" would be a force to be reconded with after watching the advance screening. It was as powerful a film that we have ever seen. “12 Years” earned nine nominations, including best picture, best director (Steve McQueen), best actor (Chiwetel Ejiofor), best supporting actor (Michael Fassbender) and best supporting actress (Lupita Nyong'o).

"The Wolf of Wall Street" was an over the top greed-fest that had us laughing out loud in amusement one moment, then had us stunned at the outrageous behavior of its characters the next moment. It garnered five nominations, all in big categories: best picture, best director, best actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), best supporting actor (Jonah Hill) and best adapted screenplay (Terence Winter).

Here are the other nominations for best picture
