Ford Motor Company honored with two prestigeous awards
  Ford Motor Company has been named the Corporation of the Year by the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council ( MMSDC ) . Ford was awarded for its excellence and its commitment to working with and helping to develop and mentor of minority business enterprises . This is the fourth consecutive year that Ford has been honored as Corporation of the Year.
 
In addition , Carla Traci Preston , director of program development Ford 's Supplier Diversity , was honored for individual achievement in supplier diversity .
 
In 2012 , Ford exceeded its supply targets by purchasing $ 5.7 billion in goods and services from minority-owned suppliers and $ 1.2 billion in goods and services from women-owned suppliers . Last year, the Tier 1 suppliers stocked Ford $ 2.1 billion with minority Level 2 - and women-owned businesses .
 
"This win clearly underscores the company's ongoing commitment to develop and grow their suppliers owned by minorities and women," said Hau Thai- Tang , vice president , Global Purchasing , Ford Motor Company. " As a company, it is essential that we continue to integrate supplier diversity in the procurement process so that we remain very competitive , innovative and sustainable . "
 
Preston , honored for individual achievement to supplier diversity , received the award Jethro Joseph Advocate of the Year . This award is given annually to a person who is not a buyer , but still stands by his actions the spirit and intent of supplier diversity in the economic development of minorities.
 
"Ford Motor Company continues to be a leader when it comes to minority and women-owned businesses ," said Louis Green , CEO , MMSDC . "The dedication and commitment from Ford to develop and maintain a broad base of suppliers has been established for decades and will continue for decades to come . "
 
The year 2013 marks the 35th anniversary of the program of Supplier Diversity Development at Ford. Since 1978 , Ford has invested $ 67 billion , with more than 400 minority suppliers . Ford launched a program to provide support to minority and women owned businesses to create business opportunities for diverse suppliers to become profitable companies , and to further strengthen base Ford supplier network that reflects the workforce and the customer base of the company.
 
" Because we live in a diverse world , it is imperative that we partner with the best of minority and women-owned businesses that reflect the landscape of society," said Burt Jordan , vice president of global purchasing vehicles and systems propulsion and Ford supplier diversity . " Our diverse supplier base enables us to provide excellent and innovative products and services that our customers around the world want and deserve. "
 
The award of the Corporation of the Year honors companies that actively include certified minority suppliers in their procurement opportunities . These companies help in the development of minority suppliers and promote supplier diversity within their organizations . They encourage other suppliers and business partners to take an interest in supplier diversity , too.
 
In the automotive OEM category , the winner of the Corporation of the Year to be distinguished in a very competitive field . The selection criteria the committee uses include spending minorities , mentoring, minority supplier development and other services that generate sustainable growth of minority business enterprises .
